 Some of the most valuable conversations are not about having the right answers, they are about asking better questions.

It was a pleasure to join the Adaptive Leaders Podcast with Magnet to discuss how organizations, leaders, and professionals can navigate a rapidly changing world shaped by artificial intelligence, workforce transformation, and evolving environmental priorities. Rather than focusing on a single issue, our conversation explored a broader challenge: how do we prepare people and organizations to adapt when the pace of change continues to accelerate? 

Throughout my career, I have seen that resilience is rarely built through reacting to change alone. It comes from investing in people, strengthening partnerships, embracing continual learning, and developing systems that can evolve alongside new challenges.

Adaptive leadership is not about predicting the future. It is about building the capability to respond thoughtfully when the future arrives.

This conversation reinforced that one of the most important responsibilities of leaders today is creating environments where curiosity, collaboration, and learning become organizational strengths, not occasional activities.

 Building a more inclusive workforce requires more than good intentions. It requires sustained collaboration, practical resources, and a shared commitment to removing barriers that limit opportunity.

It was a privilege to attend the Women and Gender Equality Canada funding announcement at Sheridan College, marking the continuation of an important initiative supporting women's leadership, workplace inclusion, and economic participation.

Over the past several years, this collaboration has brought together government, educators, employers, and community partners to develop practical resources, strengthen awareness, and support organizations in addressing systemic barriers faced by women across key sectors.

Progress toward equity is rarely achieved through a single program or policy. It is built through partnerships that encourage organizations to examine their practices, create more inclusive workplaces, and invest in the potential of every individual.

This experience reinforced that inclusive workplaces are not simply better for individuals, they strengthen organizations, enrich communities, and contribute to a more resilient workforce.

 The transition to a more sustainable global economy is creating new opportunities—but also new responsibilities for businesses.

It was a privilege to co-present ECO Canada's webinar on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), exploring what this evolving European regulation means for Canadian small and medium-sized exporters. As sustainability expectations become increasingly integrated into international trade, organizations need practical guidance to understand new reporting requirements, assess potential business impacts, and prepare for future compliance.

One of the most important messages from the session was that regulations such as CBAM should not be viewed simply as compliance challenges. They are signals of a broader transformation in how environmental performance, transparency, and competitiveness are becoming interconnected in global markets.

Supporting organizations through these transitions requires more than explaining new requirements. It requires helping leaders understand how changing policies influence business strategy, supply chains, and long-term resilience.

This experience reinforced that the role of environmental professionals is increasingly to help organizations anticipate change, not simply respond to it.

 Building a sustainable future requires more than preparing the next generation. It requires listening to them.

It was a privilege to participate in the SDSN Canada Together/Ensemble Conference, contributing to a national dialogue that invited young people from across Canada to help shape the country's contribution to the 2030 Agenda and Canada's 2027 UN Sustainability Report.

One of the most encouraging aspects of the discussion was seeing youth recognized not simply as future leaders, but as current partners in addressing complex sustainability challenges. Their perspectives, creativity, and willingness to question established thinking are essential to developing solutions that are both innovative and inclusive.

Sustainability is ultimately about the legacy we leave behind. Engaging young people in meaningful dialogue ensures that the decisions we make today are informed by those who will live with their consequences tomorrow.

This experience reinforced that the strongest sustainability strategies are built with future generations, not merely for them.

Standards evolve because the world evolves.

It was a privilege to lead ECO Canada's webinar on the transition to ISO 14001:2026, exploring the key changes introduced in the revised Environmental Management Systems standard and what they mean for organizations preparing for implementation.

The session focused on translating the revised requirements into practical actions, helping environmental professionals understand not only what has changed, but why those changes matter. Topics such as climate change, biodiversity, organizational resilience, and evolving stakeholder expectations reflect the growing complexity of environmental management and the need for systems that are both effective and adaptable.

One of the most rewarding aspects of these discussions is seeing professionals recognize that standards are not static documents. They are living frameworks that evolve alongside emerging environmental priorities and organizational needs.

This experience reinforced that the greatest value of a management system lies not in achieving certification, but in building the capability to continually improve.

 One of the greatest privileges of leadership is the opportunity to recognize the people whose work is quietly shaping a more sustainable future.

At the ECO IMPACT 2026 Awards Gala, I had the honour of presenting the Sustainability Trailblazers Award to SHARC Energy, recognizing their innovative work in wastewater energy transfer and their contribution to practical climate solutions. It was equally inspiring to celebrate organizations and professionals whose work is strengthening environmental stewardship, advancing innovation, and building more resilient communities across Canada.

Awards recognize achievement, but they also tell a larger story. They remind us that progress is rarely the result of one breakthrough or one individual. It is built through years of commitment, collaboration, and the willingness to turn good ideas into meaningful action.

Celebrating excellence is about more than acknowledging success. It is about inspiring the next generation of leaders to see what is possible.

The beauty of a product should never distract us from the integrity of the system behind it.

It was a privilege to speak at the Sustainable Retail Summit 2026 in Paris on a panel exploring how sustainability standards in the floriculture sector can move beyond audits and logos to deliver meaningful outcomes for workers, communities, and the environment.

Consumers increasingly look for certifications and sustainability claims when making purchasing decisions. While these tools play an important role, they are only part of the picture. Real impact depends on how standards are implemented, how organizations work together, and whether improvements are experienced by the people and communities they are intended to serve.

Our discussion focused on credibility, alignment across standards, and the importance of ensuring that responsible sourcing delivers measurable outcomes, not simply compliance.

This experience reinforced that sustainability is not measured by the number of labels on a product, but by the quality of the systems, relationships, and accountability that stand behind them.

 Innovation has its greatest value when it creates meaningful benefits for people, the environment, and the economy.

It was an honour to represent ECO Canada at the Tech-Access Canada Annual Conference and present the Triple Bottom Line Award to SMART Centre. The award recognizes projects that demonstrate how applied research and innovation can deliver measurable impact across the three pillars of sustainability—people, planet, and prosperity.

The conference brought together colleges, researchers, industry leaders, and innovators from across Canada, highlighting the important role that collaboration plays in translating ideas into practical solutions. Applied research continues to be a powerful driver of environmental innovation, helping organizations tackle complex challenges while strengthening communities and industries.

This experience reinforced that innovation is not simply about developing new technologies. It is about creating solutions that deliver lasting value for society while contributing to a more sustainable future.

 Lasting change often begins with strong partnerships built on a shared vision.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ECO Canada and the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) marked an important milestone in our shared commitment to advancing the Sustainable Blue Economy. Alongside the agreement, ECO Canada accredited four academic programs at CMU, reinforcing our collective focus on workforce development, educational excellence, and professional readiness.

This partnership reflects a belief that preparing the next generation of environmental and maritime professionals requires more than individual programs—it requires collaboration across institutions, countries, and sectors.

By bringing together expertise in education, accreditation, and industry, we are helping create pathways that strengthen professional capacity while supporting sustainable economic development across the Caribbean and beyond.

This experience reinforced that meaningful partnerships are built on a shared commitment to developing people, strengthening institutions, and investing in the future.

 Effective sustainability standards depend not only on strong frameworks, but also on consistent interpretation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

It was a privilege to join fellow SSCI Benchmark Leaders in Paris to review benchmarking priorities, refine assessment approaches, and help strengthen the consistency of the Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative's benchmarking process. These working sessions play an important role in ensuring that sustainability standards continue to evolve alongside emerging expectations while maintaining credibility and trust.

One of the most valuable aspects of these discussions is the opportunity to learn from colleagues representing different organizations, sectors, and perspectives. Through open dialogue and shared expertise, we collectively strengthen the systems that support responsible sourcing and social and environmental accountability around the world.

Strong leadership begins with understanding the evidence.

The release of Statistics Canada's Census of Environment: Ocean Condition Account provided an important snapshot of the changing conditions across Canada's marine ecosystems. The data confirms a clear trend: sea surface temperatures have risen across every one of Canada's marine bioregions over the past four decades, with significant implications for ecosystems, coastal communities, and the industries that depend on healthy oceans.

As Chair of Ocean Alliance Canada, I believe data like this serves two important purposes. It is both a wake-up call and a roadmap. It helps us better understand the challenges ahead while reinforcing the need for collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and regions.

Evidence alone does not create change. Meaningful progress comes when data informs better decisions, stronger partnerships, and practical action toward a more resilient Blue Economy.

Meaningful change rarely happens through the efforts of a single organization. It happens when diverse partners come together around a shared purpose.

The launch of Ocean Alliance Canada (OAC) represents an exciting step forward in strengthening Canada's Blue Economy. Bringing together expertise from across industry, government, academia, Indigenous communities, and environmental organizations, OAC provides a national platform for collaboration, innovation, and workforce development.

It was a privilege to contribute to this initiative alongside colleagues committed to advancing sustainable ocean industries and preparing Canada's workforce for the opportunities ahead.

The future of the Blue Economy will depend not only on technology and investment, but on our ability to connect people, ideas, and organizations around a common vision for sustainable growth.

 One of the most rewarding aspects of professional practice is helping build systems that continue creating value long after a project is complete.

Our accreditation visit to the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) marked an important milestone in ECO Canada's growing international collaboration and commitment to advancing quality standards in environmental and maritime education.

Working alongside the leadership teams at ECO Canada and CMU reinforced the importance of partnerships grounded in shared purpose. Accreditation is more than a recognition of quality—it is a commitment to continuous improvement, workforce readiness, and preparing graduates with the competencies needed to support a rapidly evolving Blue Economy.

I look forward to seeing this partnership continue to strengthen environmental leadership, professional excellence, and sustainable development across the Caribbean.

It was an honour to join international leaders at the Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference & Expo in Jamaica to discuss the future of the Sustainable Blue Economy.

Our conversation explored how workforce development, innovation, international collaboration, and environmental stewardship can work together to support resilient coastal economies. Bringing together perspectives from government, international organizations, industry, and academia reinforced the importance of cross-sector partnerships in addressing complex global challenges.

The Blue Economy represents more than a collection of industries. It is an opportunity to rethink how economic growth, environmental responsibility, and community well-being can advance together.

It was a privilege to support amfori BSCI as part of its benchmarking journey with the Consumer Goods Forum's Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI). The benchmarking process is a rigorous evaluation that helps determine whether a sustainability scheme aligns with internationally recognized expectations for governance, verification, and continuous improvement.

Working alongside the amfori team, SSCI colleagues, and international experts highlighted the value of collaboration in strengthening responsible business practices. Benchmarking is not simply about achieving recognition; it is about creating confidence that sustainability systems are robust, transparent, and capable of delivering meaningful outcomes.

Experiences like these continue to reinforce an important lesson: progress in responsible sourcing is built through collaboration, consistency, and a shared commitment to raising standards across global supply chains.

It was a privilege to join fellow panelists at the 2024 Federal Contaminated Sites Workshop to discuss career pathways within the contaminated sites sector.

Our conversation explored the diverse opportunities available to environmental professionals, the importance of attracting and retaining talent, and the need to create pathways for Indigenous practitioners to contribute to this important field.

One message resonated throughout the discussion: solving tomorrow's environmental challenges begins with investing in today's professionals.

 During a visit to Trinidad and Tobago, Yogi, alongside ECO Canada's President and CEO, met with government officials, including Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, to discuss environmental challenges and the organization's plans to expand operations in the region. The discussions focused on creating job opportunities and promoting sustainable business practices.
